God has a profound way of redirecting our focus back to the basics of why we do what we do.
His heart is for children and the most vulnerable of this nation, as is ours.
Recently, our orphanage in Sumba encountered a situation to rise to this challenge.
This is a true testimony you need to hear. While it may shake you to your core, God’s grace ultimately shines through.
An Unthinkable Act Leads to Unfathomable Mercy – Mercy Home Sumba
Locked up and left broken and afraid on the cold ground, Hana knew she had to escape.
She could not keep experiencing this abuse. Time after time an evil man came to violate her, tearing into her; a man she should have been able to trust—her own father.
Her home was a prison, and her body a tool used by a depraved, deranged man until the unthinkable happened—Hana knew she was pregnant.
It came when all hope seemed lost. It was an open window—an opportunity to break away.
Combatting the raw panic and swirls of confusion, sheer desperation took over. Hana took her opportunity.
She ran!
Without looking back, God opened a way for Hana to find temporary shelter at a police station and give birth to her child—a baby boy.
Quickly realizing that she had no one and could not raise this child, a single hope rang in her ears. She heard of an orphanage called Mercy Home Waikabubak (Sumba).
With help from the local government, she met with Mercy Home Sumba and its leader Mrs. Deborah.
“When the head of the orphanage told me over the telephone, ‘Can we accept the mother and baby?’ I immediately said, Yes, thank God.”
Ps. Paulus told the team.
“Personally, I am grateful to Mr. Petrus and Mrs. Deborah who are sensitive to existing needs.”
This beautiful baby, named David, and his mother are now safe in Mercy Home Sumba.
It doesn’t end there…
Hana bravely told her brother everything that had happened prompting him to report the incident to the police.
Hana’s father is now in custody and the police department is handling the case.
Until her father is officially behind bars, Hana will stay in the safety of Mercy Home Sumba where she and her son will be cared for.
Their story can now be one of healing and hope.
Ps. Paulus communicated this message to all our orphanage leaders in response,
“Don’t fear the issue of need or lack. God will always provide and bless all needs. Welcome and embrace those who have become orphaned and neglected, because that is why Mercy Indonesia was called by God.”
